- Wow: WTOP reports that a chunk of the ceiling at the Farragut North Metro station, weighing about 50 pounds, fell onto the platform around 3 p.m. this afternoon. No one was hurt
and service was not affected. About an hour and a half after we posted this, Metro closed the station to investigate.
- Marion Barry was on the warpath today! First, he went on Fox Business Channel and claimed that those who opposed his proposal to cap TANF benefits in D.C. to five years were looking to keep poor people of color “enslaved.” Then later in the day, Barry lectured a man testifying at today’s public hearing on the streetcar bill about respecting the people of Ward 8 and challenged him to walk around the area with him for two days to “see the pain.”
- The D.C. government plans to ask doctors who practice in the city how much they know about HIV/AIDS — doctors will be asked to fill out a 15-question survey and rank the ages and sections of the city with the highest prevalence rate.
- Interim DCPS Chancellor Kaya Henderson canceled her office hours at the last minute last night, leaving about a dozen students and their parents feeling rather miffed.
