Sure, there are other anti-Walmart groups popping up around town, but this is the only one we know of which features a smiley face feasting on the District flag. I mean, just look at that logo! And wait…is the flag supposed to be bleeding? I’m going to go ahead and guess that was intentional.

The organization behind this logo, Walmart Free DC, will take its fascination with exclamation points and frightening logos on the road this week — they’ve planned a march on the Woodley Park home of Dick Knapp, the Foulger-Pratt developer who is helming the plans to install a Walmart at the old Curtis Chevrolet site in Ward 4. The march is planned for Thursday night.

So what does this coalition of “District residents” want? The group’s flyer notes that they want to prevent Walmart and Foulger-Pratt from “destroy[ing] our neighborhood,” while a blog post on the site claims that the group is “not interested in negotiating with Wal-Mart, but in having them not enter the city.” City Paper’s Lydia DePillis, who we can confirm has complete impartiality in this matter, says that she isn’t “putting their odds of success that high.” Even so, just a tip for the protesters: leave the masks at home.
