According to assorted internet sources and lots of people on Twitter, today, December 15, 2010, is National Cupcake Day.

So where are our free cupcakes?

Maggie Moo’s is offering free samples of their ice cream cupcakes — if you bring in a canned good to donate — while Curbside Cupcake and Georgetown Cupcake are offering their usual secret password deals. But this seems pretty weak for National Cupcake Day — especially in a city which is home to a cupcake-based reality show, makes better cupcakes than New York and is full of people who will wait in lines which stretch around the block in the oppressive heat just to get their cupcake fix.

If there are no free cupcakes on a day designed to celebrate their existence, then we have no choice but to declare: The Cupcake Trend is Dead.
