Good morning, Washington. We hear that the roads are a bit of a mess this morning, as people are already getting the usual pre-snow jitters. But according to recently released data (a small bit of which we talked about yesterday), more people aren’t too worried about it. The Post reports on the uptick in public transportation usage among Washingtonians in the American Community Survey five-year figures. According to the Post’s analysis, Washington trails only New York in subway use between 2005 and 2009, while general public transportation use was up and solo driving was down. Of course, it’s important to put things in perspective: while some experts claim that the figures don’t appropriately depict multi-modal transportation users, 66 percent of Washington respondents still say that they’re getting around in a car by themselves.

So, Yeah, About That DC9 Reopening: An interesting turn of events in the DC9 story last night, as the scene that many thought would develop outside of the club as it reopened, well, didn’t. According to Sommer Mathis, nothing was stirring at the 9th Street bar last night, which was scheduled to reopen for the first time in two months at 9 p.m. The front door of the club remained obstructed, no employees showed up to work, there wasn’t any organized protest and only about a dozen people swung by for a drink, only to find a group of reporters, a few police officers and a dark interior. The club’s website says it’ll next be open on Friday — we imagine the turnout will be slightly higher, but who knows.

Gray To Make Police, Fire Choices: ABC7 reports that Vince Gray will officially reappoint Metropolitan Police Chief Cathy Lanier to her post this afternoon outside the Reeves Center. The station also reports that Gray will be bringing on former D.C. deputy fire chief Kenneth Ellerbe, currently working in Sarasota, Florida, as the new Chief of the D.C. Fire Department. The announcements are expected around 1:30.

Marion Barry: Crime Victim: Marion Barry’s 2002 Jaguar was stolen over the weekend — the Mayor-for-Life’s ride was parked in front of the Patricia R. Harris education center at 4600 Livingston Road SE on Saturday morning when it was taken. Police recovered the car on Tuesday, but haven’t made any arrests. We know you’re a busy guy, Councilmember Barry — but maybe next time try not leaving the keys in the ignition?

This Day in DCist: Last year, we found a panda ally in the incomparable John Hodgman; in 2008, we had some tips for Barack Obama, who announced he’d be rolling into town via Amtrak.
