Photo by Mr. T in DC.A new study by the Communications Workers of America shows that 57 percent of Washingtonians, 49 percent of Virginians, and 37 percent of Marylanders have Internet speeds below the Federal standard. The Federal Communications Commission has set an acceptable standard as 4 megabits per second, and many of your Internets is not meeting it.
So Maryland ranks 4th in fastest Internet speeds, while Virginia ranks 17th, and D.C. comes in at a lowly 42. The Communication Workers of America included Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands in their study making D.C. 42 out of 53.
Looking at the D.C. report, it seems like if you live in Foggy Bottom or Dupont Circle you enjoy the fastest speeds in the city. Lowest speeds reside in the 20019 zip code, in the greater Deanwood and Fort Dupont areas.
Surprisingly, Delaware has the fastest Internet in the country. Delaware has an average download speed (kbps) of 13,430 and upload speed of 3,487. Go figure.
