Roosevelt Brockington, Jr.

Who killed Roosevelt Brockington, Jr. inside Bethesda’s Suburban Hospital on New Year’s Day, and why did they do it? Montgomery County police appear to be totally stumped — though they are now admitting that Brockington’s death was likely “not a random act of violence.” WTOP reports that after reviewing the results of an autopsy, police announced that Brockington was stabbed to death on Saturday — and despite the fact that they are still attempting to pin down a motive, they don’t believe it was random. Authorities are basing that assumption after learning that Brockington was on the phone with a friend when the attack occurred. TBD reports:

The friend who on the phone heard everything, says Paulette Brockington. In the middle of the phone conversation, says the victim’s mother, the friend “heard the person — whoever it was — come in and [say], ‘Give me your money.'”

Brockington didn’t resist, according to his mother.

“He gave him the money and said, ‘Just don’t hurt me.'” That apparently didn’t deter the attacker, who asked, “Is this all that you have?” Roosevelt Brockington said that was all he had. “And then they heard him holler three times, and I understand he was stabbed three times.”

Brockington, who was employed at Suburban for four-and-a-half years as an engineer, was also a deacon at St. John’s Church in Northeast.

The big mystery, of course, is how someone can walk into a hospital, stab someone to death, then manage to walk out before a lockdown is able to go into effect. Police and hospital officials are working together to scan through video surveillance footage, but have so far come up empty.
