Calling it “a very lonely moment in a very public place,” Allen Haywood — the 47-year-old man who was attacked at the L’Enfant Plaza Metro station last Sunday — spoke out about the attack on camera yesterday. Haywood, who has apparently ridden the Metro for 25 years, told WTTG/Fox 5’s Roby Chavez that he wouldn’t stop riding the system, though “he plans to sit very close to the emergency call button” in the future. During an on-screen interview with the reporter, Haywood broke down while telling Chavez about his first experience back at L’Enfant after the attack.

“I never thought I would be that crazy person…with a sign, said Haywood, fighting tears. “But I just made a sign that said I was attacked at L’Enfant Metro. No one helped. Please be careful.”

Metro Transit Police have said that they will increase foot patrols at L’Enfant. Anyone who witnessed Sunday’s attack is encouraged to contact police at 202-962-1792; MTP also note that any customer who sees a fight break out inside any Metro station should call 202-962-2121.
