Photo by Constructed Space.A few weeks ago we learned about a tree kerfuffle where uppity Watergate residents whined about the plan to plant sycamore trees, as it would ruin their views and destroy their property values. Now, we have an update following a February 3rd meeting of the National Capital Planning Commission. It’s a bit unsatisfying.
The NCPC approved final site development plans for their phase III redesign of the Georgetown Waterfront Park. They also voted to allow the National Park Service to “consider using an alternative Sycamore tree, or another species of comparable size.” So, pretty much the NCPC vote left it to the National Park Service, the message being it’s not our problem, do whatever you want, if you can afford it, or feel like it.
So, the saga continues – will NPS decide to plant smaller trees or trees of a comparable size? As the world turns, so does the days of our lives…
