FOOD & DRINK: Zola Wine & Kitchen (505 9th Street NW) challenges you to stuff your face at their whoopie-pie eating contest. Winners get fabulous prizes like a free cooking class for two, wine and a free lunch. For those who don’t want to compete, there will also be a wine tasting, whoopie-pie decorating and raffle prizes like free dinner for two. 5-8 p.m. Free.
FITNESS: Past Tense yoga studio (3253 Mt. Pleasant Street NW) brings in author Rachel Machacek to read from her book “The Science of Single” following their Friday happy hour yoga class (which is set to Top 40 hits to get your pumped for the weekend). The class is $15 and runs from 6:30-7:30 p.m. You can also just show up after 7:30 p.m. for the reading, which is free.

CHARITY: SOME (So Others Might Eat) is hosting it’s annual Junior Gala for young professionals at the Corcoran Gallery of Art (500 Seventeenth Street NW). The event aims to raise money for Marguerite’s Place, a new community center. There will be drinks, dancing and live music from The Blue Tips Rhythm Revue. 8 p.m.-midnight. $85.
THEATER: If Chekhov’s The Seagull is a Russian comedy, it’s hard to imagine what their tragedies must be like. But despite the dark nature of this play, its well developed characters and moving look at unrequited love have brought audiences in again and again since it was first written in 1895. See The Arlington Player’s production of it, in their final weekend of performances, tonight and tomorrow at Thomas Jefferson Theatre (3501 2nd Street S., Arlington). 8 p.m. $15.
