We’ve been talking quite a bit about other WMATArelated stories of late, but we wanted to make sure that you haven’t forgotten about Metro’s Year of Three-Day Weekend Closures, the next round of which is slated for this upcoming weekend. Both the Federal Triangle and Smithsonian stations will be closed for the entirety of Presidents Day weekend, between 10 p.m. on February 18 and closing on February 21.

Both the Orange and Blue lines will be split into two sections over the weekend so that crews can replace four track switches at the Smithsonian station and perform escalator and elevator repairs. Further complicating the weekend’s work will be reduced Red Line service — trains will only run from Shady Grove and Twinbrook every 20 minutes for a large portion of the weekend. Metro will be operating shuttle buses to bridge the gap between Metro Center and L’Enfant Plaza, but warns that those wanting to use the shuttles should budget an extra 40 minutes into their travel time.

Also, the system will be running the last train of the night on all lines 20 minutes earlier than usual. If you usually wait until last call is announced to catch your Metro train, you might want to finish up 30 minutes earlier to give yourself plenty of time to catch the train.

You can get a bevy of additional information — specifics on when the last trains will run on Friday night and how frequently trains will run during the weekend — at this link.

It’s not just rail, either: Metro has announced massive alterations to bus service for Presidents Day, February 21. On that day, Metrobus will operate on a modified Saturday schedule, and several buses, including 25 routes in the District, will not offer any service at all. The very long list of bus service alterations can be found after the jump.
