Were you planning on spending your Presidents Day getting a business license at the Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs, applying for a permit at the Department of Transportation, or complaining to the Department of Public Works about your crappy trash can? Even if it wasn’t a federal holiday, you’d have to put most of those plans on hold — most government workers, Mayor Vince Gray included, are on furlough today, one of four unpaid vacations city employees will experience this year to save the District a little more than $19 million. Still working today: cops, firefighters, emergency personnel, those prevented from being furloughed by a court order, and some selected agencies, like D.C. Water and the city’s Housing Authority.
