(Marion Barry’s Jaguar not pictured, unfortunately.)During a press conference this afternoon, the District’s Chief Financial Officer, Nat Gandhi, complained that not enough District residents were paying their parking tickets. Apparently, that group of scofflaws includes Marion Barry. Barry’s 2002 Jaguar (which, if you’ll recall, was stolen last year after he left the keys in the ignition) was booted today by the Department of Public Works. The car, which is parked near the Ward 8 Councilmember’s home at 4th and Orange Streets SE, was booted because Barry has nine unpaid parking tickets, including citations for parking the Jag in front of a fire hydrant and in a bus zone. (According to DPW, vehicles with more than two unpaid tickets that are 60 days old are eligible to have the boot slapped on them.) When asked by ABC7 reporter Sam Ford about the situation, Barry said it was “no big thing”; the Mayor-for-Life then asked Ford, “you don’t have anything better to do than write about this?”
