Good morning, Washington. There’s plenty on failed mayoral candidate Sulaimon Brown in the news today, and the scandals and controversies he’s opened everyone’s eyes to are only getting more complex and convoluted. Let’s get straight to it.

Focus of Scandals Shifts to Brooks: The scandal involving Mayor Vince Gray and Brown is quickly evolving, with the focus now shifting from Gray confidante Lorraine Green — who won’t become chairwoman of the Washington Convention and Sports Authority anytime soon — to campaign consultant Howard Brooks. The Examiner reports that Brooks, who allegedly gave Brown cash-filled envelopes to keep him on the attack against Mayor Adrian Fenty, not only filed for bankruptcy, but is also related to a D.C. businessman who won an extra year on a local lottery contract with Gray’s support. The Post, in the meantime, finds that a defunct radiology firm Brooks once worked with is suing the United Medical Center, now owned by the city, for $10 million. But even better, the Post’s article reports that Brooks’ son landed a job in the Gray administration (with a $110,000-a-year salary, same as Sulaimon!), along with his neighbor, who also worked on the Gray campaign.

But Wait! There’s More: WUSA9 caught up with Green outside a Gray speech yesterday, and asked if she denied the charges being leveled against her — “I’ve already denied them,” she tersely responded. (You can deny something twice, Lorraine.) And if all of this isn’t enough to make you throw up your hands and abandon all hope, consider this — Brown met with the House Oversight and Government Committee yesterday. Yeah. Maybe the only saving grace is that Gray is sticking to his pledge to have weekly mayoral press conferences. He’ll face the press today at 10 a.m., which will surely want to talk about school reform, HIV/AIDS, the budget deficit…oh, who are we kidding?

Kaya Henderson to be Named D.C. Schools Chancellor: Gray will be using the press conference to announce that Kaya Henderson, who has toiled for months with “Interim” attached to her title, will become the new chancellor of D.C. schools. The Post’s editorial board is very happy.

Accountability Exists in the D.C. Government! No, Really: At least one person that spends way too much public money on things like first-class airfare may be forced to pay it back — UDC President Allen Sessoms, who yesterday faced an irate D.C. Council curious as to how and why he dropped nearly $8,000 on a one-way ticket to Egypt. Of course, the hearing wasn’t without some irony. One of the legislators doing the angry questioning? D.C. Council Chair Kwame “Fully Loaded” Brown.

Briefly Noted: Man stabbed in leg near Gallery Place Metro station … Maryland House of Delegates begins debating same-sex marriage today … Pathetic.

This Day in DCist: On this day in 2010, Kwame Brown’s car got towed (honestly, it’s the lesser of car troubles for him) the first same-sex marriages in the District took place. In 2009, I prepared to go toe-to-toe with councilmembers in a basketball game and the Street Sweepercam came to the District.
