I remember once as a kid calling the time service over and over, on a bored rainy day. It seemed so funny to me that you could call a number and get the time of day, as if you couldn’t just look at a clock. Well, it turns out you won’t be able to do that, nor get the weather via hotline, anymore.

D.C. and Maryland are actually one of the few regions (the other is actually my home state of Massachusetts – but they just offer the time service) that a phone company still offers the weather and time hotlines as a service. Yet, the service is coming to an end in June. Phone companies have offered the hotlines since 1939, but with TV, the Internet, and various other technologies, they’ve finally been rendered obsolete.

If you want to call in for old-times sake one more time, the D.C. weather report line is at (202) 936-1212 and the time line is (202) 844-1212.
