UPDATE (1:43 p.m.): The Washington Post, who previously reported that the woman had died, has retracted that report and is now saying she has “serious…non-life threatening injuries.” The northwestern portion of the Red Line is a bit of a mess this morning, after a woman intentionally placed herself on the tracks and was struck by a train around 7:49 a.m. Montgomery County Fire and Rescue arrived at the Bethesda Metro station this morning and found a woman underneath a train suffering from serious but non-life-threatening injuries. They extricated her and she was taken to a local hospital; later, a preliminary investigation showed that the woman intentionally placed herself in the path of the train. Trains are still single-tracking between Friendship Heights and Medical Center to faciliate the investigation.
