Photo by Chris Rief aka Spodie Odie. It’s actually been a relatively quiet couple of weeks on the Metro maintenance front — for example, this upcoming weekend’s slate is about as non-intrusive as Metro weekend maintenance gets these days — but it’s really just the calm before the next big Orange and Blue Line storm, which will arrive over Memorial Day weekend.
Over the three-day holiday weekend, Metro will shut down all Blue and Orange Line service between Federal Center SW and Minnesota Avenue (Orange)/Benning Road (Blue), and close the Capitol South, Eastern Market, Potomac Ave and Stadium-Armory Metrorail stations to customers. As usual, there will be bus shuttles running between the
affected stations, but traffic is expected to be quite heavy with potentially 100,000 people coming to town for the four-day Stars, Stripes and Spokes motorcycle event at RFK Stadium. (Not to mention any other long weekend plans Washingtonians might be trying to get to.)
Obviously, we’ll remind you again about the closures as the date gets closer, but this might be something you’ll want to get on the calendar now.
