The federal government has a whole bunch of properties — at least 12,000 — they they’re looking to offload in order to raise $15 billion. How many of those properties are inside Washington proper? Well, considering the amount of the District that belongs to the government, not too many.

In fact, according to data released by the White House, only a few government’s properties — including a National Park Service complex near Anacostia Park assigned to the National Capital Parks-East division, some Navy buildings and a warehouse belonging to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers — would be up for grabs. Of course, when you expand your search to the Washington metropolitan region, the feds have about 500,000 square feet of underutilized property, including a rather large parcel of Department of the Air Force industrial space in Prince George’s County.
