Photo by ericgbrown.Well, that’s kind of an impossible question to answer. But are there more people in D.C. willing to identify as homosexual, bisexual or otherwise non-heterosexual when taking an anonymous survey over the phone? That we have data on!
Last weekend, the GLAA Forum took a peek inside a 2008 survey conducted by the District of Columbia Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System, and found that 80 percent of respondents said they were heterosexual — that’s a big drop from surveys taken in 2005 and 2007 by the Mayor’s Office for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Affairs which pegged the city as 92.6 percent straight.
Of course, we are talking about self-reported data from 2008 — not the hardest, most current data regarding the District’s LGBTQ population. But considering the District’s recent growth and the age range (35-54) and wards (1 and 2) boasting the highest number of homosexual respondents in the survey, it’s probably not too much of a stretch to project a continued decline in the percentage of heterosexual respondents.
