Isaiah HarrisThis morning, Metropolitan Police Department Chief Cathy Lanier announced that the department has made an arrest for the murder of 15-year-old Isaiah Harris. 26-year-old Eugene Kelly, a District resident, was taken into custody by a task force on Wednesday night and will possibly appear in court as early as today.
According to media reports, police believe that Kelly shot Harris — the youngest homicide victim in the city so far this year — and another unidentified teenager on the 1400 block of New Jersey Avenue NW on Monday night after mistaking them for members of a rival gang.
Harris was an eighth grader at Garnet-Patterson Middle School in Shaw; a candlelight vigil in his memory has been scheduled for 8 p.m. tonight in front of the school. Mayor Vince Gray is planning on attending.
