The undisputed highlight of today’s Council hearing on the hiring and engagement of Sulaimon Brown by the Gray administration: Brown’s sunglasses, which he’s worn all afternoon and refused to take off when asked to by committee chair Mary Cheh. Brown’s also spoken about some of the details of where he got paid (for example, inside Eatonville during a straw poll party) and the cues he claims Gray gave him during debates to know when to disparage then-mayor Adrian Fenty. He’s also argued with nearly every single member of the Council, most notably with David Catania. (Which, of course, was not unexpected.)

It even got to the point where Marion Barry cracked up during his turn to question Brown and said, “I’ve never been at anything like this before.”

The hearing is currently on a bathroom break — if you’re in to political circuses, we highly suggest tuning in for the rest of the afternoon.
