The D.C. Office on Aging is scrambling after Nutrition Inc., a contractor which was providing more than 13,000 meals to home-bound elderly residents in the Washington area, abruptly shut down operations. According to the Associated Press, Nutrition Inc. had notified the city that they would no longer be able to supply meals earlier this week — and the hunt has been on to find a replacement vendor since.

Of course, nonprofit agencies which worked with Nutrition Inc. to provide meals to elderly residents around the region are also scrambling to fill the void — one provider, Iona, decided to distribute emergency food packages this weekend. They are seeking donations of items like crackers, soup, cereal, peanut butter, tuna fish and vegetable juice — if you’re able to pitch in, you can contact Iona here.
