Major delays along the Red Line continue this morning, but the reason for them has been cleared: according to Metro Transit and Montgomery County Police, a device carried by a woman into the station this morning appears to be harmless.
Both K-9 and bomb detectives have been on the scene since approximately 7:30 this morning, when, according to an ABC7 report, a “woman was talking on the phone about a Muslim bombing in India, then dropped to her knees praying.” The woman has been arrested. At the moment, Rockville remains closed and trains are turning around at the Grosvenor station, though things sound like they might be clearing up soon. (UPDATE: At 9:37 a.m., Metro said that Rockville has reopened and service is in the process of being restored.)
“Thanks to everyone for your understanding this morning,” wrote Metro spokesperson Dan Stessel on Twitter. “Know it’s been a rough one on Red Line.”
