Photo by Elisabeth Grant.Early this morning, The Tune Inn — the bar of choice for several local politicians, journalists, bloggers and those with refined taste — experienced a kitchen fire, which has left the bar with “moderate” damage.
The fire, which was first reported around 7 a.m. drew a massive D.C. Fire and EMS response — nine fire trucks could be counted at one point — and no injuries have been reported. The damage has been estimated at $75,000.
Witness reports about the condition of the bar vary wildly, from apoplectic to encouraging to measured. D.C. Fire and EMS calls the damage moderate, and there’s no doubt that the bar will have to deal with some smoke and water damage before reopening to the public.
At the risk of assuming too much about the extent of the damage, the fire sounds eerily similar to the one that broke out at the Argonaut on H Street NE last year — that bar rebuilt itself with help from the community, and hopefully the Tune Inn will be able to do the same.
