Did you miss last night’s All-Star Game? If so, you missed lone Nationals representative Tyler Clippard getting the official win as the National League took down their American League counterparts, 5-1. But even if you didn’t get the chance to watch the game, you’ll be heartened to know that watching Clippard getting bailed out by Astros outfielder Hunter Pence getting out of a jam in the fourth inning — the reliever’s main contribution to the game — takes mere seconds.
Now, we’re thrilled for Clippard and the good publicity his win is bringing to the team, but if this isn’t the final nail in the coffin for the idea that “wins” are an important statistic, well, I’m not sure what is.
