>> Northern Virginia police raided 13 cafes at the Eden Center in Falls Church, which police said has become an operational hub for a Vietnamese criminal gang known as the Dragon Family to operate illegal gambling machines. Police have arrested 19 people on a number of misdemeanor charges that include gambling and alcohol violations and have evidence of extortion and drug dealing. Police also believe several stabbings and violent assaults reported in the area may be connected to the gang.

>> Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell says he will not stop Thursday’s scheduled execution of 30-year-old Jerry Terrell Jackson who was convicted of raping and killing 88-year-old Ruth Philips in 2001.

>> An off-duty federal police officer shot a person to death in the 9800 block of Piscataway Road in Prince George’s County. Prince George’s County police said the off-duty officer witnessed a violent assault and when he tried to intervene the suspect pulled out a handgun. The suspect has not been identified.

>> Authorities in Aruba say they believe Robyn Gardner, the Maryland woman who disappeared there Aug. 2, is dead, and they’re seeking witnesses to help them build a case against her travel companion, Gary Giordano. On Friday, the FBI arrived at Giordano’s Gaithersburg home and are now searching the house.

>> A man assaulted a female jogger in Sligo Creek Park Friday afternoon, knocking the woman to the ground and slapping her face. The victim yelled and fought back and the man took off running. The suspect is described as 6 feet tall, possibly of Indian descent, with black curly hair, and in his early 20s. The Park Police said they’ll be stepping up patrols in the area.
