UPDATE: According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Haynesworth’s plea involves a deferred sentencing agreement, which means that Haynesworth has to “perform the 160 hours of community service and undergo psycho-social and alcohol abuse assessments” and “must obey all laws and court orders over the next 18 months; refrain from engaging in any assaultive, threatening, harassing or stalking behavior against anyone, including the complaining witness, and stay away from the complaining witness over the next 18 months.” Otherwise, Haynesworth will face further punishment.

Those hoping for a protracted legal drama involving former Redskins defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth, prepare to be disappointed: Haynesworth pled no contest today to a charge of simple assault, and was sentenced to 160 hours of community service.

WJLA reports that Haynesworth, who had been charged with sexual abuse after he allegedly molested a cocktail waitress at the W Hotel in February, made his plea inside D.C. Superior Court this afternoon. A trial on the sexual abuse charge had been scheduled to begin tomorrow. Haynesworth had previously declined to plead guilty to the lesser charge of simple assault, and potentially could have faced a 180-day jail sentence if convicted.

Haynesworth will reportedly complete his community service in Massachusetts, and not the District.

Upon entering the courtroom, Haynesworth offered no comment other than a simple “go Patriots,” for whom he now plays.
