Photo by billkoplitz. Are you a Virginia resident sticking around town this weekend? Well, better prepare yourself for some Blue and Orange Line delays — WMATA is preparing to conduct what they’re dubbing “major” track work along stretches of both over the three-day weekend.
The work is not expected to have a severe impact on service inside the city core, but those who use Metro to get around Northern Virginia could have a rough go of it until Tuesday. WMATA will replace trains between the East Falls Church and West Falls Church stations with buses and will close down the Franconia-Springfield and Van Dorn Street stations for the entire weekend. Shuttle buses will operate along the Falls Church section beginning at 8 p.m. this evening, and along the the Franconia-Springfield and Van Dorn section beginning at 10 p.m. tonight. The disruptions will last until Tuesday morning — for the really nitty-gritty details, check out Metro’s website.
There are also a few minor Metrobus detours you’ll want to be aware of this weekend and throughout September.
