A D.C. Superior Court judge Friday ruled that Kenneth Furr, the veteran D.C. police officer who is facing criminal charges for an August 26 shooting in the 100 block of Pierce Street NW that involved transgender women, should continue to be held in jail until his next court appearance. Furr, who was off-duty and intoxicated, fired a gun into a car carrying five people. WJLA reports that three of the five passengers were injured.

Judge Ann O’Regan Keary called the case “shocking” and ordered that Furr be held on charges of assault with a dangerous weapon.

The Washington Post reports that Furr’s attorney, Harold Martin, argued that the credibility of the witnesses and the victim were in question, pointing out inconsistencies in the witness statements. The shooting victim was arrested for possession of marijuana.

The Washington Examiner reported on Monday that Furr has been punished at least twice before for alcohol-related incidents.
