This morning, Christopher Barry, the son of D.C. Councilmember Marion Barry (D-Ward 8), was sentenced to 18 months of probation for illegally possessing PCP and marijuana. Barry, who pled guilty to the charges in July, could have faced anywhere from six months to three-and-a-half years in jail. Prosecutors had said, however, that they would not be seeking the harshest possible penalty as part of Barry’s plea deal.

Barry was arrested on May 28 when police found a vial of PCP containing “sufficiently more than used for personal use” and five bags of marijuana inside his Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue SW apartment. He was originally charged with felony intent to distribute, but that charge was later dropped.
