Photo by christaki.Good morning, Washington. Well, it’s shaping up to be another interesting day at the D.C. Council. The second legislative meeting of the body’s fall term is expected to be highlighted by a battle over ethics laws: Vincent Orange (D-At-Large) is expected to introduce a controversial piece of emergency legislation which would set up an ethics “task force,” but Muriel Bowser (D-Ward 4), who chairs the committee on government operations, has asked her colleagues to not support that or any other emergency measures concerning councilmember behavior. Bowser has nine ethics bills which are awaiting hearings, while Orange’s law, if approved, would go into effect immediately. Here’s the day’s agenda, as always, you can keep an eye on your Council here.
Maryland Still Divided on Same-Sex Marriage: Last year, a measure which would have allowed gay Maryland residents to marry looked like a sure bet to pass, until the bill fell apart at the last minute in the state legislature. And now, a new poll shows that time hasn’t done anything to sway opinion. The Old Line State is still equally divided on the matter — the Post reports that 48 percent of Marylanders approve of legalizing same-sex marriages, while 49 percent are against. The state is also similarly split on the DREAM Act, which allows children of illegal immigrants to receive in-state college tuition rates.
[Nicholas Cage Joke]: Leslie Charles Waffen, who was arrested after authorities found seized 955 “sound recording items” belonging to the federal government at his Maryland home last fall, is scheduled to appear in court today. Waffen, who used to work for the National Archives, reportedly was hoarding several things that “the public has read about in history books.”
Here’s Hoping It Makes Coffee: Yup, Apple’s unveiling its new iPhone today.

This Day in DCist: Last year, “L Street SE” was named the District’s most dangerous neighborhood, people were rappelling on the side of the Capitol dome and we watched a whole bunch of adorable animals get blessed at the National Cathedral.
