Photo by AlbinoFlea.Today, Metro released a list of the major maintenance scheduled for the rest of the year. The good news? If all goes as planned, there won’t be any track work during the the four-day Thanksgiving weekend or between December 19 and January 3. The bad news? To make that possible, Metro’s pursuing an “aggressive schedule of rebuilding work during the coming weeks.”
The work isn’t anything new — it’s the same effort to try and get the rail system up to National Transportation Safety Board-requested standards that has been going on for months.
Some of the, uh, “highlights”:
>> October 7-10: no Green and Yellow Line service between Mt. Vernon Sq. and Georgia Avenue.
>> October 21-23: no Red Line service between New York Avenue and Fort Totten.
>> October 28-30: the Red Line will single track between Dupont Circle and New York Avenue.
>> October 28-30: altered Green Line service between Southern Avenue and L’Enfant Plaza — Metro says that Green Line trains will operate on the Yellow Line between Huntington and Greenbelt during this weekend.
>> November 4-6: no Red Line service between Glenmont and Fort Totten.
>> November 10-13: altered Green Line service between Southern Avenue and L’Enfant Plaza — Metro says that Green Line trains will operate on the Yellow Line between Huntington and Greenbelt during this weekend.
>> November 18-20: the Red Line will single track between Glenmont and Rhode Island Avenue.
>> November 18-20: no Blue or Yellow Line service between King Street and Pentagon City.
>> December 2-4: no Red Line service between Glenmont and Fort Totten.
>> December 2-4: no Orange Line service between Cheverly and Deanwood.
>> December 16-18: the Red Line will single track between Dupont Circle and New York Avenue.
From the looks of it, riding the rails is going to be toughest on the weekends of October 28-30, November 18-20 and December 2-4. On the bright side, at least you won’t have a bunch of delays to worry about if you’re joining the mad rush to get out of town in November, December and January.
