Councilmember Jack Evans (D-Ward 2) is the D.C. Council’s longest-serving member, represents one of the city’s richest wards and presides over the very committee that deals with financial matters. He’s also an aggressive campaigner, as his October 10 campaign finance report proves.

From August to October, Evans raised just over $90,000 for his 2012 re-election campaign, pushing his fundraising total over $230,000. (Evans’ July campaign finance report showed $143,000 in contributions to his war chest.) That’s not money he’s just sitting on, either — Evans has already spent $112,000, with the biggest monthly expense being the $8,750 rent he’s putting down on his Logan Circle campaign digs.

Evans may have former Mayor Adrian Fenty to thank for helping produce a great fundraising report. Fenty hosted a fundraiser for Evans on October 6, and according to campaign officials, helped raise $20,000. For Fenty’s first foray back into local electoral politics since being defeated in the mayoral primary last year — he sat out the April 26 At-Large Special Election — that’s not bad.

All told, the Evans campaign said it held seven fundraisers during the reporting period covered by the October 10 report, three of them in September and one in October.

Currently, Evans is running unopposed. Consultant and Georgetown resident Fiona Greig is exploring a run against the 20-year incumbent.
