Denizens of Mid City, barraged with sad business news over the last few weeks, finally were handed a shred of positivity on Saturday — Pulp, the much-loved gift and card shop with the iconic purple exterior at 1803 14th Street NW, will not be closing in November.

Pulp’s current ownership announced in September that they planned to shutter the store on November 23, after previously being unable to find a new buyer for two-plus years. (Founding owner Ron Henderson died in 2009.) But signs proclaiming a ‘Miracle on 14th Street!’ were posted around the store on Saturday, touting new “local ownership.” Staff at the store on Saturday was understandably cagey about revealing precisely who would be taking over operations, but Borderstan was able to glean that it is a “local businessman from the metro area.”

The news breaks with a recent trend which saw several 14th Street institutions, like 1409 Playbill Cafe, El Paraiso, Ruff ‘n’ Ready, and more vacate their storefronts due to various financial situations, whether it be rent struggles, emerging developments or otherwise.
