Everything About This Is Terrible and Depressing: Over the weekend, 40-year-old Prince George’s County cab driver Domingo Ezirike was shot and killed by 20-year-old D.C. resident Rashad Terrell Slye. Slye, who was charged with first-degree murder, got into a dispute with about the fare — believed to be over a few quarters — pulled a gun, then ordered Ezirike to the ground and went through his pockets; when the gun didn’t fire the first time he tried, Slye let Ezirike back into the cab, then shot him. Now, the Examiner reports, Slye had escaped from the custody of the city’s Department of Youth and Rehabilitation Services — he also had tried to call his aunt, a DYRS counselor, nine times during his altercation with Ezirike before shooting him. And, as if this story couldn’t get any worse, the shooting occurred a mere two blocks away from a police checkpoint on the 4500 block of Quarles Street NE, one which Ezirik had driven through 30 minutes before he was killed.
ISO Unbiased Jurors: Jury selection in the murder trial of Brittany Norwood continues today, as the court was unable to sort through 300 potential jurors yesterday. As WTOP reports, the challenge in finding a jury is that all but 18 of the pool said they had heard of the case, with 38 telling the court they had already made up their minds as to Norwood’s guilt or innocence. Yesterday’s proceedings also included an argument from prosecutors that they be allowed to show graphic images of Jayna Murray, who Norwood stands accused of brutally killing inside the Bethesda Lululemon yoga store last year, during opening statements.
This Is Why The Terrorists Hate Us: Life is tough in Fairfax. But some concerned citizens aren’t taking the challenge of making things better lying down. A group of them have taken their fight for a better life to the courts, battling a scourge so vile, it’s poopy. That’s right, there’s a lawsuit about dog poop, specifically that of a 19-pound Westie-bichon frise mix. The key piece of evidence in the case? Data from PooPrints, “a service that collects DNA samples from pooches, taking a “CSI”-style approach to find the culprits of unclaimed messes.”

This Day in DCist: Last year, Alexander Ovechkin shared some nuanced thoughts on women, and the District’s police told residents to be sure to write their name on their gun, should it be stolen.
