Last night, the Washington Capitals defeated the Anaheim Ducks in a dramatic game which featured the team coming back from a three-goal deficit in the second period and eventually winning in overtime. The victory pushes the Caps’ record on the season to 8-2, and it maintained the club’s perfect record at the Verizon Center this season, where they have won all six of their games.

Of course, casual hockey fans across the country probably aren’t focusing on that stuff, as all anyone can seem to talk about is how Alexander Ovechkin wasn’t on the ice for the last minute of regulation, then was caught on camera (see above) calling head coach Bruce Boudreau a “fat fuck.” (Or maybe he was saying “want puck,” it’s a little tough to tell.)

But really: can we at least save the meaningless handwringing until the team’s inevitable springtime playoff collapse? At least then everyone will be getting all cranky about something legitimate.
