Redskins legend Dexter Manley — whose “Secretary of Defense” should be an automatic inclusion on any list of the best sports nicknames ever — has a few ideas about how the team could return to the glory days when he won two Super Bowls with the Redskins. Namely, Manley thinks that team owner Dan Snyder needs to sign “some boys from the hood.”
The former defensive end/quote machine aired his opinions on WTOP this morning, while previewing Washington’s upcoming game against San Francisco:
The team has to be more productive on offense, he says, including improving the play-calling and recruiting a different kind of personnel.
“You can build a billion-dollar stadium, but you’ve got to get some boys from the hood,” Manley says of what he calls “nasty ballplayers.”
“You got to get some bad boys who are going to play football, who are mad, who are mean, who don’t care about their reputations. I don’t see anyone over at Redskins park like that.”
What, do you mean like players who fail four drug tests, are subsequently banned from the NFL for life, and then find themselves struggling mightily to cope with the horrors of drug addiction? Players like that?
