Photo by pollyesther.Just as quickly as Sekou Biddle has chosen to challenge Councilmember Vincent Orange (D-At Large), the City Paper’s Loose Lips reports today that Jacque Patterson will jump into the race against Councilmember Marion Barry (D-Ward 8).
Patterson, who unsuccessfully ran alongside Biddle in the April 26 Special Election, is no stranger to Ward 8 politics — not only has he served as an ANC commissioner, but he also took Barry on in 2004, coming in fifth in a field of seven. Patterson joins Darrell Gaston and Sandra Seegars, both currently ANC commissioners, in the attempt to finally unseat Barry.
But, as Loose Lips writes, Patterson, who will announce in the coming weeks, is already facing a stiff challenge from Gaston, who is accusing him of forging his signature on a letter in support of a charter school. Patterson agrees that he signed on behalf of Gaston, but only with the latter’s acquiescence.
In related news, Barry, who hasn’t yet entered the race but is widely expected to, has apparently chosen a successor (one of a dozen!) — his son, Christopher. According to the Post, Barry has said he plans on serving half a term and handing the seat to his only son, who recently had a drug-related run-in with the law.
