Photo by Tony DeFilippo.Friday, Veterans Day, is a national holiday. While the day off will certainly be enjoyed by the federal employees in our midst, it’s going to be a downright bummer for Metro riders who are depending on the Green Line to get them where they need to go.
Beginning at 10 p.m. on Thursday, four Green Line stations — Waterfront, Navy Yard, Anacostia and Congress Heights — will close for the weekend to allow for track work, opening again as service resumes on Monday morning. Free shuttle buses will run between the L’Enfant Plaza and Southern Avenue stations, making stops at each. (Yellow Line trains will not be affected by this work, and will run between Huntington and Greenbelt all weekend.)
In addition to the Green Line work, riders should also note that the Shady Grove and Rockville stations will close early on Saturday night, at 11 p.m. Free shuttle buses will also be in place to ferry passengers through those areas that evening. Both stations will reopen at 7 a.m. on Sunday.
Finally, Metrorail and Metrobus will operate on a Saturday or a “Saturday supplemental” schedule on Veterans Day, which, in short, means that there will less service than on a normal weekday.
