The Post’s Mike DeBonis went down to the D.C. courthouse this morning to get more details on what happened when Kevin Chavous, Jr., a candidate for the Ward 7 seat on the D.C. Council, was arrested in early December for soliciting prostitution. He writes:

Chavous declined to give his version of events that night, but charging documents filed by prosecutors include new details on the bust.

At approximately 1:40 a.m., Chavous is alleged to have approached undercover officer Tracee Chamberlaine, who was “in the area to combat the numerous complaints of prostitution,” and asked, “Hey, you need a ride?”

Said Chamberlaine, “No, what are you offering first?”

“I can show you,” Chavous said, according to court papers.

At that point, Chamberlaine offered to perform oral sex; Chavous is said to have assented, and the officer suggested a price of $20.

“OK, cool,” he said, according to the filing. Chamberlaine then told him to ”meet me up the block.”

At that point, authorities say that Chavous had a question: “You aren’t the police, are you?”

“Hell, no,” said Chamberlaine.
