Word from the Washington Convention Center today is that a D.C. Council retreat — awkwardly timed to coincide with Valentine’s Day — featured yet another shouting match and expletives hurled between Councilmembers David Catania (I-At Large) and Marion Barry (D-Ward 8).

That this isn’t the first time in recent history that councilmembers have shouted swear words at each other says both something about how well some of them get along and their apparent inability to remain at least marginally diplomatic while in their official capacity. (I’ve been witness to one of the blow-ups between Catania and Barry; there is some real pent-up animosity there.)

Maybe this is why D.C. Council Chair Kwame Brown wanted the retreat closed to the press.
