Albrecht Muth, who is accused of killing well-known Georgetown socialite Viola Drath last year, is being sent to St. Elizabeth’s psychiatric hospital for a mental evaluation, reports Georgetown Patch. But more than that, says the Post, he’s been ruled temporarily incompetent to stand trial. Judge Russell F. Canan said he would revisit the decision after the evaluation was completed.

At a court hearing today, a government doctor said Muth was delusional and could potentially be suffering from psychosis:

Marzban said that Muth claims to see the Arch-Angel Gabriel, that he talks to and sees Gabriel and that he believes his fast was ordered by the angel. Muth has been fasting since Nov. 20, but starting Monday agreed to eat for seven days before beginning another 40-day fast. Muth claims to be “chosen” like Moses and Jesus and has told his doctor that God will help him survive the fast, though the Dr. told the patient that he did not have the physical strength to continue not eating.

Last week, a D.C. judge ruled that Muth would not be able to represent himself at his own murder trial because he doubted that he had the mental acuity to do so. Muth’s antics have slowly gone from humorous to downright troubling, ranging from a refusal to wear underwear and an insistence that his wife was killed by Iranian agents to the more recent claims that an angel ordered him to stop eating.
