Photos via gwucars.tumblr.comWith their tuition, housing, meals and student fees topping out at close to $60,000, perhaps we shouldn’t be surprised when we see George Washington University students in cars that, on balance, seem way too nice for any 18-to-22-year-old to be driving.
Still, damn.
The cars above, an Audi R8 parked in front of a Ferrari 599, are just two of the most ostentatious examples collected by the new Tumblr photo blog GWU Cars. The site’s anonymous author maintains each of the fancy rides pictured—German luxury coupes and Italian supercars abound— are student-owned. (What better evidence than a Mercedes-Benz locked down in a Denver boot? College students don’t pay their parking tickets, duh.)
But the website BroBible (yeah, we know) was able to get ahold of GWU Cars’ author, who said that GWU’s reputation as a preferred school for the children of the global ruling classes might have something to do with the number of super-swank rides rolling around Foggy Bottom:
“GWU’s mix of Asian, Arab, and Jewish students who are extremely wealthy is insane,” he explained via e-mail. “It’s a very international school and most of the cars are Arab kids from countries like Qatar, Dubai, Jordan, Egypt, Kuwait, London, etc. Some kid’s parents are presidents and are ruling families of Arab countries, mob bosses, international villains, etc.” He declined to comment on which presidents, ruling families, mob bosses, or international villains, specifically, in respect to their privacy and security.
At least some at the posh university have been aware of its ritzy nature, though. In 2006, The GW Hatchet asked if the school had taken on a rich-kid reputation. Short answer: Yes, and how:
“It’s not a shocker that the people here have money,” said senior Addia Cooper-Henry, founder and editor in chief of Verse, a magazine on campus that describes itself as “a high-end fashion and entertainment publication for the young elite.”
Verse features reviews of restaurants, lounges, bars, clubs, boutiques and performance venues, as well as yearbook-style photographs of students partying in posh clubs around D.C.
Cooper-Henry knows about the extravagant lifestyle that some students enjoy. She said she knows students who keep multiple cars handy to show off on the D.C. streets. She said others might jet to New York for a weekend to go clubbing and shopping if they feel like spending some cash.
These days, GWU’s 1-percenters enjoy showing off their cars in the valet line at nearby nightclubs, GWU Cars’ author tells BroBible. Some students even have multiple cars to choose from, the blogger continues, such as the owner of a Porsche GTR 2 RS (base price $140,150) who purportedly also has a Rolls-Royce Ghost ($250,000) on retainer.
And some student is even driving around in this:

That’s a Mercedes-Benz SLR 722 Edition. Goes for about $534,000 and up.
