Photo by staceyvieraDrop everything and start thinking about that boysenberry syrup. Tomorrow is National Pancake Day, so forget your lunch appointment and break out the extra roomy jeans, because IHOP will be serving up free short stacks all day.
Yes, for the second time in as many Tuesdays, the word of the day is “pancake.” (Last week was Shrove Tuesday, the flapjack-fueled feast that precedes Lent.) The nondenominational National Pancake Day is open to all, especially those who are willing to wait on some very long lines.
The annual griddle frenzy is also a charitable mission to benefit Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. Last year, IHOP raised $2.5 million across its 1,500 restaurants, and this year, the company is shooting for $2.7 million. However, in the Washington area, IHOP will be collecting funds for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, a spokeswoman for the organization writes.
So, have some free pancakes for a good cause, even if the lines are incredibly long. And as we noted on National Pancake Day 2011, it’s the perfect excuse to feature Rooty Tooty pancake porn. Free short stacks begin at 7 a.m. at IHOP’s locations at 3100 14th Street NW and 1523 Alabama Avenue SE.
