Attention car-owners without private driveways or garage spots: Street-cleaning season starts anew on Thursday, with enforcement to begin on March 12. The District’s street-sweeping regime has been revamped for this year, with the Department of Public Works adding new efficiency measures like rerouting the sweepers and choosing a specific start date.
On his website, Nick Barron, a member of advisory neighborhood commission 2F notes that the cleaning schedule has been changed for some high-traffic residential streets that are swept weekly. Cars that are not moved out of the way on cleaning days will be photographed and their owners sent $30 tickets. (They’ll also have to suffer the ignominy of being the jerk who caused one part of the block to be dirtier than the rest.)
Meanwhile, DPW says streets without signed schedules will be cleaned twice a month with no requirement for car owners to move their vehicles, though this relaxed policy will be found only on quieter streets.
All the other details are on DPW’s website.
