With just over a week left until the April 3 D.C. primary, the race to replace Councilmember Vincent Orange (D-At Large) remains tightly contested between challengers Sekou Biddle and Peter Shapiro.
After having wrapped up the trifecta of the Post, City Paper and Current endorsements over the last two weeks, today Biddle, pictured at right, gained the support of former At-Large candidate and D.C. State Board of Education member Pat Mara and Councilmember David Catania (I-At Large). Biddle has also attracted the support of his former At-Large challenger Bryan Weaver and Councilmember Tommy Wells (D-Ward 6).
At the same time, Shapiro picked up urbanist blog Greater Greater Washington, making it the only publication to cite Shapiro’s work on the Prince George’s County Council as an asset instead of a liability. (The City Paper and Post said that Shapiro hasn’t been in D.C. long enough to occupy elected office.)
Both Biddle and Shapiro face the uphill battle of hoping they can each attract enough voters to avoid splitting the vote and allowing Orange to cruise into another term.
Remember—if you’ve made up your mind already, you can vote early!
