Via Ben & Jerry’s

Free Cone Day was just two weeks ago, but on a day on which the temperature could hit close to 90 degrees, what better news is there than another round of sweet and creamy Vermont-based munificence?

Ben & Jerry’s has a truck rolling into D.C. today for about a month to serve up free—free!—tastings of the ice cream giant’s latest concoction, this time with a Hellenic twist.

In the past few years, Greece has contributed two things to global culture—mass public upheaval and a spike in worldwide yogurt sales fueled largely by a surge in the popularity of strained yogurt. (Removing whey gives yogurt a thicker, almost cheesy feel, but significantly cuts down on calories and fat.) In February, Ben & Jerry’s hopped on the craze and gave it a flavor-spiked twist.

Starting today at locations to be announced by the truck’s Twitter feed, Ben & Jerry’s fans can taste one of four flavors of Greek-style frozen yogurt: Raspberry Fudge Chunk, Peanut Butter Banana, Strawberry Shortcake or Blueberry Vanilla Graham. And if you miss it at first, don’t worry. The truck will be in the area until May 11 before it heads to Miami. (Ben & Jerry’s also has a second truck touring the West Coast, beginning today in Los Angeles.)

But is Greek yogurt any good when frozen and jammed full of sugary treats? One scoop-shop aficionado found the blueberry and graham cracker variety pretty solid, but was underwhelmed by the peanut butter and banana mix.

Still: Hot day. Ben & Jerry’s. Frozen yogurt. Free. Food truck. What more could we possibly need?
