Twitter got itself in a bind this afternoon with rumors that the Grandfather of Go-Go, Mr. Chuck Brown himself, had passed. Fear not—it’s not true. “Just rumors,” said Tom Goldfogle, Brown’s publicist.

Brown was hospitalized recently for unknown ailments, and cancelled all of his shows in May. According to people who have spoken to him, he’s on the mend.

Late last year I learned a valuable lesson: don’t trust Twitter when it comes to matters of life and death. I know because I mistakenly reported on a Twitter rumor that Black Cat Bill had died, when he hadn’t.
