Marion Barry suffered a health scare this weekend and is now hospitalized in Las Vegas, where he traveled with a D.C. delegation for a retailers convention.
According to Barry’s Twitter account, the Ward 8 councilmember suffered a blood clot while waiting on a plane in Memphis yesterday. This morning NBC4 reported that Barry has been hospitalized in Las Vegas.
In a series of tweets yesterday, Barry said he had been told to take blood thinners and thanked Filipino nurses for their assistance, the first time he has seemingly apologized for recent comments in which he singled out the nurses for criticism and caused something of an international incident.
Earlier this year, Barry underwent a minor surgical procedure on his urinary tract. In 2009, he underwent a successful kidney transplant, while in the mid-1990s he was diagnosed with diabetes and treated for prostate cancer.
