The United House of Prayer for All People hosted its annual Memorial Day parade Saturday afternoon to celebrate the church’s history and honor its founder and past leaders, also known as the “daddies.”
Based on a D.C. street closure alert sent yesterday morning, the parade was from 12 – 3 p.m., blocking streets in neighborhoods such as Shaw, U Street and Logan Circle. The rest of the church’s Memorial Day festivities will last until Monday.
According to The Root, the church organization comprises 1.5 million members. The white house of worship capped with gold domes on the corner of M and 6th streets is its national headquarters. It was founded in 1927 by Bishop Charles Manuel Grace. The current leader is Bishop C.M. Bailey.
