As we wrote earlier today, Councilmember Phil Mendelson (D-At Large) could well be a day away from being elevated to the post of Interim D.C. Council Chair.

He’s got the support of the majority of his colleagues, but some city activists and elected officials are pushing for the position to be given instead to Councilmember Vincent Orange (D-At Large). Not Sulaimon Brown, though, who sent a statement out today expressing his support for Mendelson:

I support and endorse Phil Mendelson to be the next council chair. I’ve known Mr. Mendelson over the years to be an outstanding role model to our young people in the district and a man of his word. I’m not in support of Vincent Orange, because he’s not a man of his word. He lacks honesty and integrity and is directly tied to other dishonest people that are presently under federal investigation. We should not remove one crook and replace him with another.

Orange still isn’t giving up, though. He announced today that he would seek to amend legislation giving Mendelson the position so that it gave it to him instead.
